Hurley’s Veterinary Hospital appears to operate as an independent practice (no corporate group mentioned in the provided data) and is frequently used for urgent, out-of-hours care, including overnight stays. Reviews describe emergency scenarios such as chocolate ingestion, seizures in the night, and severe illness requiring surgery and extended hospitalisation (one case mentions a two-week stay). A recurring operational detail in reviews is that updates may be provided remotely (photos/videos via WhatsApp are mentioned), and one reviewer alleges pets were monitored by camera when left alone.
Owners’ experiences are sharply split: several reviews describe rapid response and intensive care in emergencies, while others report very high fees, disagreements about necessity of treatment, and difficult interactions around payment/receipts.

My dog ate some chocolate on a Sunday and i phoned Hurleys as they were the only vets open. He told me i should bring her straight in, gave her an injection to make her vomit and kept her half an hour. Meantime on an online chocolate toxicity calculator i found the quantity she had eaten was no cause for concern and realised the vet had not even asked me how much she had eaten just went straight to 'bring her in'. The bill? €395. I feel like i was mugged. Steer very clear of this place

DO NOT ATTEND THIS VET I would not recommend this vet. He should be avoided at all costs. Besides his extortionate prices. €350 call out fee, an additional €250 “call out” fee to check on the dog. Unknown to me he leaves the dogs alone in the dark and “monitors them through a camera”. When my dog ran to me when I demanded to get her back he said the dog was now “fine” as she could run. The dog was absolutely terrified as she was sick and was locked In a cage for hours on her own. When he was questioned on leaving the dog alone he got very aggressive. He shouted at myself and my partner and was not very nice to deal with. I was handed a bill for €706 after the dog was in his practice for 4 hours. When I questioned the amount he said it was that high as he was “made” to come back to the clinic as I requested he released my dog to me. I also had to ring the out of hours number 6 times to ask him to release the dog. He didn’t answered but when called from a different number he answered. This was after I was sent a video on WhatsApp of my dog sitting on newspaper covered in stool. I wasn’t in a position to pay at that moment as I was taking the dog to a different vet. He reminded me that if I didn’t pay the very next morning that he knew my name and my address. An agreement was made on a lower amount. After that was paid he refused to provide a receipt and refused to provide an itemised receipt for the pet insurance. I was told if I wanted a receipt I would have to pay the remainder of the bill. The €250 to release my dog. Which was not the deal. I was also told that if I “attacked him for no reason” online he would expect me to pay the €250 which he already had removed from the bill. When the dog was reviewed by a different vet 2 hours later the issue he said the dog had was very clear that she did not have. I already made Richard aware of what the second vets told me. I believe he either exaggerated the dogs condition or genuinely had no idea what he was doing. If he truly believed the dog had an interruption of blood supply to the intestines she never should have been left alone, which she was. The dog also had a temperature a few days later after picking up an infection. This vet can not be trusted and I don’t understand how his practice is allowed to remain open.

My dog got surgery here a few years ago, recently her leg has been acting up (the same leg she got surgery on) I went to a different vet a few days ago and my dog had to get an x ray. Turns out her leg never fully healed from Richards performance in the surgery, now she may have to get it amputated!!! If you want your pet to suffer bring them to Hurley’s Veterinary!

Brought our dog in who was crying in pain for a reason we couldn’t deduct late in the evening. He handled it with absolute professionalism and was very kind and courteous. Kept him overnight and our boy was right as rain afterwards. Highly recommend especially when out of hours of usual vets times

Our beautiful two year old Weimaraner took ill on a family holiday in Dingle in July 2023. She had two seizures in the middle of the night. Richard took my call at 4am and was on site in Tralee ready to help within the hour. To say he took great care of our dog would be a massive understatement - he truly did all he could to help her, keeping us informed with regular updates that were augmented by pictures and video via Whatsapp. Sadly, it transpired that our beautiful girl had stomach and bowel cancer, so she didn't make it. Richard did all he could to explore every avenue to save her. To those below saying "he is expensive" or "all about the money" - you are talking absolute rubbish. Richard capped our fee and continued to try to save our dog afterwards - even when it looked like all hope was lost - as he said himself, he was "professionally and emotionally invested" in her wellbeing. You cannot fault the man and you cannot ask for better service than that. Before purchasing a pet, you should be aware that when medical issues occur, costs do accrue - and they accrue quickly. You cannot blame the vet for your own lack of research or preparation. Thank you for everything Richard.

I recently had an emergency situation with my dog and I cannot express enough gratitude for the team at Hurleys Veterinary Clinic, especially Richard. My dog needed an emergency operation and Richard was quick to act, saving my dog's life. He kept my dog for two weeks until he was fully recovered and it was clear how much he cared for my dog's well-being. Richard's expertise and dedication is truly remarkable. He is not cheap, but the care and attention he provided was worth every penny. He went above and beyond by frequently sending us updates, photos, and videos of our dog to keep our minds at ease during the recovery process. The entire team at Hurleys Veterinary Clinic was exceptional. They were all kind, caring, and professional. They made the entire process as smooth as possible and made my dogs recovery possible! I cannot recommend Hurleys Veterinary Clinic and Richard enough. Their commitment to their patients and their families is evident in everything they do. Thank you, Richard, for saving my dog's life and providing exceptional care.

Richard Hurley is a rip off, I brought my cat down yesterday as she got attacked by a dog that was belong to a neighbour of mine, but she had passed at the back of the car before I got to the vets, but I still went in with her as he told me bring her, so went in he put her on the table glanced at her, and told me what I already knew, and charged me 150 euro. hes money mad, very very disappointed at this price will definitely not be going here again, and I wouldn't recommend him at all.
